Charter of Human Rights Forum

On the 29 September 2005, the Commission held a forum at the Law Institute of Victoria that explored the implications the proposed Charter of Human Rights may have on the Victorian public service.

Elizabeth Kelly

Chief Executive ACT Department of Justice and Community Safety

Elizabeth (Liz) Kelly is a Legal Policy lawyer and a member of the ACT Bill of Rights Consultative Committee. She oversaw the development and implementation of the ACT?s Human Rights Act 2004 (HRA) and is now administrating the HRA in the role of Chief Executive, ACT Department of Justice and Community Safety. At the Charter of Human Rights Forum, Liz presented an overview of the ACT HRA and an assessment of what has changed in the ACT since it was passed.

Professor Haddon Storey

Professor Haddon Storey sits on the Government?s Human Rights Consultation Committee. He was involved in the extensive consultation project with regional and metropolitan Victorian community groups to scope their needs and support for a Charter and at the Forum presented an overview of the consultation process.

Matthew Carroll

Matthew Carroll is the Commission?s Legal, Policy and Systemic Initiatives Manager and at the Forum he presented an overview of the Commission?s submission to the Charter of Human Rights consultation with specific focus on the benefits of a Human Rights Charter for Victoria and the role the Commission may have in its administration.
